LeAnne Marquis is an artist who divides her time between the Annapolis/Baltimore, MD area and the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of NY. She grew up in New England and ever since she can remember, art in some shape or form has been her passion. As a child she was always toting a pencil and sketch pad about and scouring the earth and sand for interesting stones, shells and sea glass. She is a graduate of the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School with a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Sculpture.
LeAnne has made a career in graphic design and stayed active in her fine art while also raising two wonderful sons (who are now young men) with her college sweetheart and husband of 25 years. A perpetual student, she's studied with Master pastelist Albert Handell and wonderful western NY artists who have mentored her. LeAnne has exhibited her pastel paintings in New England and New York. Revisiting her love of unique gemstones about 6 years ago, she's discovered a new love, or obsession really...jewelry design.
Her jewelry has a strong presence in Annapolis, MD at ArtFX Gallery, in Ellicott City, MD at Art and Artisan Gallery and in Honeoye Falls, NY at Ock Hee's Gallery and Bloomfield Gardens.
LeAnne's jewelry is featured in the publication "Just Jewelry" by New Art Review, a juried art publication featuring new and emerging talent of 2010.
The gemstones used in LeAnne's jewelry are handpicked for their beauty and uniqueness. A design may originate from the inspiration of a gemstone or a simple organic shape so since she is always discovering new treasures, LeAnne is always creating something new. Incorporating fine silver which she torch fuses and hammers by hand with gemstones, pearls and the satiny sparkle of Czech glass in earthy shades, LeAnne loves to juxtapose natural elements with industrial materials and graphic shapes. She has been told her jewelry has an antique feel while still possessing contemporary sensibilities. Treating each piece as an individual work of wearable art, LeAnne creates timeless jewelry meant for day into evening wear.
