Mandalas
The word "mandala" is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Translated to “containing” or “circle completion". It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself--a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds. The mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention as an aid to meditation and for establishing a sacred space.
These pieces are created using fine silver wire which I hand form, torch fuse and hammer giving them their organic look. Circles float within circles creating movement and sparkle. They may be worn with either the textured or the smooth flat side forward. The smooth side has a satiny sheen, while the hammered side glistens.
For some pieces I've paired the Mandala with the Half Moon - The symbol of new life, growth and hope.
Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver which means it resists tarnish. The copper and other metal alloys in sterling (which is 95% pure) are what causes oxidation. Not to say, it cannot tarnish at all, it may darken slightly but can be brightened up easily. I recommend Shine Brite Silver Dip Cleaner from Euro Tool since it is safe for most gemstones.
I've chosen to darken some pieces in this collection with a patina finish for a more earthy look. Please do not clean or polish your patinaed (intentionally darkened/oxidized) silver. Doing so will remove the patina.
